Members of our nations armed forces roll into the North East on Saturday ahead of the ABA senior novice championship pre-quarter final stage.

In what is expected to be a fantastic day of boxing at the Rainton Meadows Arena, Tyne, Tees and Wear boxers and fans will have the chance to pay respect to the brave men who fight for our country, but on Saturday it will be all about qualifying as many TTW boxers for the quarter final stage.

TTW will already have six boxers in the next stage after they received walkovers. They are class A: 51kg Kyle Stanforth (East Durham), 86kg Brian Little (Sunderland East End) and class B: 51kg Curtis Todd (Lambton Street), 54kg Jack Coglan (South Durham), 86kg Tom Riley (Wellington) and 91kg Elliot Crow (Wellington). Class B, Private Barry will also join them in the quarters as he too receives a walkover.

There are still 14 scheduled bouts to enjoy on the show though and the day promises to be a special boxing event.

The TTW boxers have enjoyed a very succesful year in ABA championships and will be hoping to continue that in this new season. However, they will be expecting tough competition from men in our combined services who are natural warriors and due to military training, will be definitely coming in with fantastic fitness levels.

TTW ABA official Davey Newth is urging fight fans to get along to the event on Saturday, saying:

“What better way to show your appreciation to the ‘heroes’ of the armed services than coming down to Rainton Meadows Arena to support the Servicemen of Combined Services Boxing Association against the tough warriors of the TTW ABA.
