Steve Wraith’s November 24th show now ‘Farewell to Fergie’

Davey Ferguson has been persuaded to box one last time by Tyneside promoter Steve Wraith and will top Wraith Promotions’ November 24th bill at the O2 academy Newcastle.

The popular North Shields-born heavyweight had 15 professional fights with a record 12(4)-3(1) and competed in Sky’s Prizefighter twice but has not boxed since losing by first round knockout to Larry Olubamiwo in June 2010.

The big man has since turned his attention to coaching his younger brother, also Davey, who boxes under the name of Karl. Karl lost his debut fight on Steve’s first professional show (‘Return of the Ca$h’) in September though and Davey has decided to step in and top a bill one last time.

Wraith is naturally delighted to secure Ferguson’s services for an already impressive looking bill, in a press release he said: “To pull in a big name like Fergie in my second show is a dream come true for me. He is a crowd favourite and he deserves the plaudits that will come his way at the show. He is a big name not just locally but nationally, and I hope boxing fans further afield come and say goodbye to another great fighter from our region.”

The man who topped Steve’s first bill, Akash Hussein, will also be on the bill and is moving up to fight at cruiserweight. He is scheduled to fight another local fighter in Paul O’hagan who is making his pro debut after many years in the white-collar scene with Wraith.

Sunderland will be represented by rising prospect Lee Mould who is 2-0 in his young career. The exciting boxer who fights out of Mal Gates’ Harton and Westoe gym was due to have his third fight on the Return of the Ca$h show but was forced to withdraw due to work commitments. He has a chance to get back on track on November 24th.

Mould’s stablemate Anthony ‘Babyface’ Nelson and Taylor Ward (trained by Neil Fannon) are both due to feature after impressing on the first bill. Mark Clauzel and Rob Ismay are also expected to be on the bill.

The event takes place at the O2 Academy Newcastle on Saturday November 24th with doors at 3pm and boxing starting early at 5pm in order to finish in time for the big return of Ricky Hatton on the same night. Tickets are priced at £35 and are available from Wraithpromotions.com or any boxers on the bill.

*The bill may be subject to change and we’ll keep you updated on the show in the upcoming weeks.
